Dr. Prigione is Independent Team Leader at the Max Delbrueck Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) in Berlin. Dr. Prigione received an MD from the University of Milan in 2002 and a PhD from the University of Milan-Bicocca in 2008. During his training, Dr. Prigione worked on mitochondrial disorders at the UC Davis California and on human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin.
The Prigione group was established in 2015 with a Junior Investigator grant from the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The focus of the lab is two-fold: i) dissect the role of mitochondrial programming in the establishment of neural fate, ii) apply this knowledge for modelling and treatment discovery of neurological diseases with mitochondrial impairment.
